和歌山県田辺市中辺路町、世界遺産・熊野古道の起点・滝尻王子のすぐ近くに位置する本計画は、旅人を迎えるSEN.RETREATブランドの簡易宿所である。
元ペットショップの木造・重量鉄骨造2階建ての建物を、無人受付に対応した宿泊施設へ改修した。4室のシャワー・トイレ付き和室と、共用のキッチン付きラウンジ、ランドリースペースを設け、機能性と落ち着きのある滞在を両立する空間を目指した。
敷地は富田川沿いの斜面地にあり、車道からは2階レベルでアクセスし、1階の出入口からは川辺へと斜路が続く。
設計では、複雑な増改築の痕跡と派手な外観を整理し、外装はSOLIDOによる落ち着いた色調のサイディング材に張り替え、部分的な減築により複数の小さなボリュームが積層する構成とした。
内装は川石をモチーフにグレートーンで統一し、開口部を最小限に絞りつつも川の風景を印象的に切り取る構成とした。
SEN.RETREATブランドの熊野古道全体の体験を支える拠点の一つとして、地域に根ざす施設を目指している。

This project involves the renovation of a two-story mixed-structure building in Nakahechi, Tanabe City, located near Takijiri-oji, one of the traditional entry points to the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo. Operated under the SEN.RETREAT brand, the facility serves as simple accommodation for travelers walking the ancient pilgrimage route. The existing building, formerly a pet shop, was converted into a lodging facility designed for unmanned operation. It includes four Japanese-style guest rooms, each with a shower and toilet, along with a shared lounge with a small kitchen and laundry area, aiming to provide both functional simplicity and a restful stay.

Situated on a sloped site along the Tonda River, the building is accessed from the road at the second-floor level, with a sloped path leading from the first floor down to the riverbank. The renovation reorganized the fragmented appearance and vivid colors of the existing structure. The exterior was re-clad in SOLIDO cement siding with subdued tones, and partial demolition helped create the appearance of multiple small volumes layered together. The interior design is unified by a gray-toned palette inspired by river stones, and the carefully positioned windows frame tranquil river views while minimizing openings.

As part of the broader SEN.RETREAT network, the project is intended to serve not only as a lodging space in Takijiri but also as one of several locally rooted bases that enhance the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage experience.
